The Medical Interpreter Professional Series aims to equip trained interpreters with the knowledge, skills, and sensitivity needed to effectively interpret in substance use and mental health related encounters, emphasizing harm-reduction, cultural awareness, and ethical professionalism in addiction treatment.
The training provides participants with cultural perceptions of substance use, basics of co-occurring mental health conditions, and the impact of stigma and trauma in addiction treatment. Ethical considerations when interpreting in a substance-related setting are also explored. The course explores contemporary issues in the field of substance use, including treatment, recovery, and strategies for medical interpreters in substance use-related dialogues.
