Join us as we break down the complex and intricate topic of substance use disorders! This training is intended for community health workers who are working with those living with SUD as well as those just wanting to learn more about this topic. We will discuss the unique and important role community health workers play in understanding and supporting individuals who are living with a substance use disorder. A mix of group discussions, practice case studies, lectures, and interactive lessons will provide participants with an in depth look at some of the skills and strategies they can use in a treatment and support setting. Topics covered include: Myths, stereotypes & stigma, the War on Drugs, co-occuring disorders, opiates & opioids, marijuana, alcohol, stimulants, benzodiazepines, the opioid crisis & reframing addiction, alcohol misuse disorder, harm reduction & person first language, and much more!
